In South Africa, a woman was found alive in the mortuary refrigerator and is recovering in hospital. After the South African body was declared dead by medical staff after a traffic accident, it was transported to Carlton House in Gauteng.
According to a report on the South African website TimesLive, the Distress Alert ambulance company said the victim had “no sign of life”. However, when mortuary staff returned to check the body in the refrigerator, they discovered that the woman was breathing.
An investigation is ongoing, but Gerrit Bradnick, Director of Operations for Distress Alert, said there was “no evidence of negligence”.
This is not a first in South Africa, similar cases have already occurred in 2016 and 2011.
